Yesterday was my oldest son’s birthday. I can’t believe I’m old enough to have a son who is 35 years old!
I have 2 son’s. I don’t see much of them and every time their birthdays arrive, so do the memories of their births.
I had interesting births. My oldest son put me through false labor 5 times. Talk about embarrassing! But then when he decided to come he came FAST!
I was in a university hospital and the doctor and all her wonderful students checked on me. I was in hard labor and had been for about 5 hours. She told me that I was only dilated to a 2.5 centimeters and I had a long way to go. She then walked out of the room with all her students following her.
Well she no sooner left the room when my baby started coming through the birth canal! I kid you not! I yelled for the nurse and said “THIS BABY IS COMING” she said no it isn’t you have several hours to go. I yelled back “YOU WANT TO BET? HIS HEAD IS COMING OUT NOW!. She and my ex husband came running. Sure enough my child was being birthed! The 2 of them began to roll me into the delivery room and I gave birth right there in the hallway! He just shot out!
I’m so thankful that I was in the hospital at the time because he had the cord wrapped around his neck and was so blue he was black. It took the nurse 10 minutes to get him breathing! He almost didn’t have a chance to be 35!
My second child followed in his brothers footsteps to a point then showed him up.
He too put me through false labor 5 times. I remember the night I gave birth I was starting to have small contractions and I thought to myself I’m never going to have this baby! This is another false labor! I was so exhausted that night that I just wanted to sleep. So I went to bed. I slept till my contractions woke me up at nearly 2:00 in the morning. I told my ex (he was my husband at the time) that we need to go now. He was skeptical too at this point so he said “let me time you”. He did. My contractions were 30 seconds apart!
We rushed down to the car (me screaming all the way) and raced through every red light (no traffic at 2:00 am) all the way to the hospital.
He ran it to get help and by the time he got back my son was born! I had him in the front seat of an old green Ford Galaxy 500! ALL BY MYSELF!
The intern with the gurney came and he said to my ex, you didn’t tell me she already had the baby. He replied “I didn’t know”! I turned and said it’s a boy. Another intern in the lobby asked if he could cut the cord and for the next 48 hours I got ZERO sleep! Everybody in the hospital came to visit my room at one time or another to find out if I was the one who gave birth in their parking lot! Do you know that nobody even bothered to report it to the news? I would have loved that for my son. Oh well.
The moral of this story is that when that baby is ready he’s going to come!
