Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
I started seeking God when my children were little. It was when I first arrived to Colorado and was staying with my ex-sister in law. I was unemployed and needed food. I found a well-known church that offered a food ministry. That night as I picked up my food bags, I sensed something. I didn’t know what it was, but it felt very similar to the way it felt when the angel stood beside my bed as a child. I was temporarily on welfare .
I decided to take my kids to church for the first time in their lives. They were 7 and 8 years old. They loved it. I loved it. I was hungry for it. We poured our lives into it. I volunteered in the busing ministry on Saturdays. For 2 years we attended. I hungered for the Word and read my entire Bible the first year. We only made a few friends there. For the first time I knew what it was to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit and nothing else mattered. During that time the preacher was teaching on finances and I felt very compelled to go back to work. He had been talking about tithing and I decided to step out in faith and trust God for the first time in my life. I got a job at Burger King and I tithed my last welfare check. I remember, it was just 2 weeks before Christmas. I had nothing to give my kids. I was so upset. I went to my sister in laws house and was crying on her shoulder about it. I didn’t have a tree or gifts or anything. She promised she could get me a fake tree to use through someone she knew who had a few of them in the basement.
Just then the telephone rang . My assistant manager at Burger King was trying to locate me. I had put my sister in laws number on the application as a reference. She called me at her house. I got on the phone and asked what she wanted she asked” What are you doing Wednesday night?” I asked “ Why? What do you need?” She said “I need you to time me. I won a ten thousand dollar shopping spree at Toys R Us and I would like for you to share it with me!” Now, is that God? My kids had over $2000.00 worth of toys and bikes and skates and balls under the Christmas Tree that year. To this day, we have never had a better Christmas.
It truly was a real life Christmas Miracle and it was at that moment I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves me.
